Twenty auxiliary fairs besides Art Basel and 60 exhibitions all within 6 days. The city is still a sun and fun city so lots of VIP events. Lots of Brand parties; lots of collectors opening their mini museums; lots of articles written about sales, who was here, and who wasn’t. And? And, what about the art? Of course! Well, there was a small amount of gems – the top galleries bought Lucien Freud, Gerhard Richard, Picasso, and Warhol, but the decorative junk was overwhelming – forty years later – watered down Pop everywhere. If I never saw one more Marilyn, one more sparkly Panda, minimal art, conceptual art, text based work, shiny shallow big empty canvases devoid of one new idea, it would be too soon. Please is there not one artist dealing with the world they are living in. Where is the MAGIC? That is not a word used today because that’s what a very good artist does, he makes magic and carries you with him kicking and screaming and loving it. Stop asking how much something costs because the gallery owners are getting tired of that question. It takes the fun out of their job. They are there to enlighten you with their passion and knowledge. The fair that did that this year was the Design Miami show – the furniture and new designs were outstanding! One left lifted and inspired under the mad entrance. So here are my thoughts. Where was a knock out show on tattoos? The new art form of our times staring us in the face. What is our moment in time? It is the revenge of nature, it’s happening around us. The awaking to the equality of people, the universe calling us. We are not the center of the universe, so? Artists can do much better. I am looking for that new group of artists that have the collective unconscious pushing through. They are around. A new Art Movement is coming. It’s not the Mayan end of the world. It’s the beginning………….
